ExpressView Browser Plug-in for Mac gives the Safari browser the ability to natively view MrSID and JPEG2000 images. The intuitive graphic user interface allows you to view, magnify, print and save images. ExpressView Browser Plug-in for Mac is free for individual use and is easily installed as a plug-in for the Safari browser.

The .dmg contains the following elements :

ExpressView.mpkg (a) will install Safari plugin AND Standalone application.

If you only want a standalone App, just double-click on the following packages stored in "packages" folder :

Expressview Components.pkg (b)
-
Expressview App.pkg (b)

Once installed, the ExpressView Application is accessible via the "Applications" folder.

Get some MrSid Image

01- URL = https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/mrsid.pl
- a click on the grid will take you closer to the tile of interest.
- Tick the "select Image" button, and and click on the tile of interest...
02 - a "snapshot" of the image will pop-up.
03 - Download the compress file (.tar) by clicking on Download MrSID Image.
04 - Once download completed, double-click on the .tar folder to decompress it. The folder contains the sid image, along with a world file (.sdw) which hold the geographical information, a meta-data file (.met) and a quick view (.jpg)

To have a proper understanding of what you are looking at, open the meta-data file (.met) in textedit. You ll be interesting info regarding the sat. image : name of the Platform, time / date of the acquisition of the image, projection, datum...
05 - Double click on the .sid .. "et voila...".
